Omaha Beach at the dawn of the 21st Century.  This was but one of the many
beaches on the Normandy coast that the Allied forces landed on in 1944.  This was the
biggest amphibious assault of all time, and was required because the armies of Nazi
Germany had pushed the Allies off the continent of Europe in 1940.

Concrete barges still outline one of
the Mulberry Harbors.  These were
huge, man-made harbors the Allies
built after the landings began in order
to create safe harbors for unloading
troops, equipment, and supplies.  By
building their own harbors, the Allies
did not have to worry about taking
and clearing the port at Cherbourg.

The American Cemetery at Omaha Beach.  Given by
France to the United States, this small patch of land is
sovereign American soil.  It is a peaceful place now, right
in the middle of what was a bloody hell in 1944.
